Events and Training

The departments of Emergency Management and Safety and Security seek to promote resilience in the face of emergencies and disasters through emphasis on preparedness trainings, awareness programs, and interactive events.

Important

Please note that trainings and events are open to ALL Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ community members, including staff, students, and faculty.

While registration is not mandatory, we kindly ask that staff and faculty register through the HR training portal beforehand. However, we do accept walk-ins, and student registration is not necessary.

Safety Trainings

Emergency Preparedness and Active Shooter

This training will go over emergency procedures for various hazards, including fire (as well as evacuation procedures), medical emergencies, power outages, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, suspicious persons, and suspicious packages. Participants will also examine best practices and lessons learned from previous active shooter incidents in the country. Because most incidents are over within minutes, students, faculty, and staff must be prepared to deal with the situation until first responders arrive. Participants will learn recommended response tactics from the NYPD, as well as steps that can be taken immediately to protect oneself.

Until Help Arrives Trainings

Until Help Arrives is a one-hour presentation that encourages bystander involvement in traumatic injuries to increase survival rate of significant bleeding. Please note, this is not a full first aid or CPR course, just life-saving skills until a trained responder arrives. The course covers:

  • Getting involved
  • Communicating with 911 operators
  • Staying safe
  • Stopping the bleeding
  • Positioning and moving people
  • Providing emotional support

NARCAN Trainings

This workshop will cover the current heroin/opioid epidemic plaguing this nation and the life-saving action of administering NARCAN to counteract a possible opioid overdose. This training could save a life.
