Conserving Energy
Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ has demonstrated an active role in energy management since 1973. The University has implemented over 350 projects, aimed at conserving electricity, natural gas, steam or water, resulting in several million dollars of total savings. Some examples include: more efficient heating and cooling systems, automatic temperature control, occupancy sensors and low flow showers, faucets and toilets.
As of 2017, Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ has partnered with Cenergistic, an energy conservation consulting firm from Dallas, Texas, to take our energy conservation efforts to the next level. The main focus is to eliminate wasteful habits, such as leaving the air conditioning on in unoccupied spaces. Through our energy conservation efforts, we hope to achieve a 25% reduction in total energy use by the end of 2020.
Not only will this program reduce Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ’s operating budget, it will also positively impact our environment by combating climate change and pollution. Remember in order to generate electricity, fossil fuels are burned which emita greenhouse gases as well as, particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, mercury, arsenic and lead.
