Karen L. Illuzzi Gallinari

Biography

Adjunct Professor Karen L. Illuzzi Gallinari teaches Public Health Law at Haub Law. She has more than 20 years’ experience in healthcare law, compliance, litigation, medical research and bioethics.

Prior to joining Haub Law, Professor Gallinari held positions as Senior Compliance Officer for NYC Health + Hospitals, Director of Regulatory Affairs for Research, Director of Compliance and Privacy Officer at Montefiore Medical Center, and Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel for Staten Island University Hospital. She also served as Vice President for Patient and Family Services for the American Cancer Society, and New York State Chair of the National Patient Advocate Foundation.

Prior to her in-house positions, Professor Gallinari was a litigator with the firm Anderson Kill Olick & Oshinsky, P.C. She applied the firm’s insurance coverage expertise to patients and medical institutions seeking to secure insurance coverage for state-of-the-art medical treatments. She also organized a national network of pro-bono attorneys experienced in handling health insurance disputes.

Professor Gallinari was Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Health Law Section, and was an active member of the New York City Bar Association’s Bioethical Issues Committee. She remains an active member of the Health Law Section’s Executive, Biotechnology/Medical Research and Public Health Committees.

She is admitted to practice in New York State and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Professor Gallinari graduated cum laude from New York Law School and earned a B.A. from New York University. She also holds a Certificate in Bioethics from the Montefiore from Einstein Center for Bioethics.
