Biography

Adjunct Professor Joel Dodge is a constitutional lawyer, public policy advisor, law school educator and director, and published writer on issues of policy, politics, and law. His work has included defending the constitutional right to abortion as part of the legal teams in major Supreme Court cases Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health and June Medical Services v. Russo, devising a legal theory defending the Affordable Care Act in the Supreme Court case King v. Burwell, which was discussed by multiple justices at oral argument and picked up by major media organizations before the Court ultimately upheld the healthcare law, and publishing analyses and commentaries on public policy and politics at many prominent outlets, including The Atlantic, CNN.com, the Washington Monthly, Heatmap News, and more. He also served as a policy advisor to President Biden’s 2020 transition team. Professor Dodge also served as the chair of American Constitution Society’s New York Lawyer Chapter.

Professor Dodge began his career as a litigator at the law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. He then worked as a constitutional lawyer at the Center for Reproductive Rights. He also taught as a lecturer in law at Columbia Law School, and now serves as the school’s Director of Public Interest Lawyering & Strategic Initiatives.
