Nikole Hannah-Jones is an award-winning investigative reporter for The New York Times Magazine and the Knight Chair in Race and Journalism at Howard University, where she is the founding director of the Center for Journalism & Democracy. She is the creator of The 1619 Project, which became a #1 New York Times bestseller and an Emmy Award-winning Hulu docuseries.
Her work has earned her a Pulitzer Prize, the MacArthur 鈥淕enius鈥 Grant, the Knight Award for Public Service, two George Polk Awards, and an Emmy. A believer in Black institutions, she co-founded the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting and founded the 1619 Freedom School in Waterloo, Iowa.
